People love to learn Spanish so there are over 450 million Spanish speakers!

Learning Spanish keeps being an interesting option, reports the Inform of “Spanish: an alive language”, elaborated by the Cervantes Institute in 2015. From the 7.000 languages that exist in the world, the Spanish occupies the fourth place worldwide in number of speakers, and the second in importance of international communication. In the present around 14 million of students learn Spanish. Each time there are more people who decide to learn Spanish, which is why it is said that in 2030 there will be more than 530 million of Spanish speakers. In 2050 United States would be the country with more Spanish speakers in the world.

The importance of learning Spanish goes further than cultural aspects, because sharing a language allows increasing in a 290% the commerce between Spanish speaker countries. Spain and North America have at the moment more than the 78% from the Spanish speakers’ commerce power. The Hispanics from United States are the minor group with the highest acquisitive power, getting pass the Afro-Americans from 2007.

Furthermore, the Spanish language occupies the third place in the net among the more used languages; the 10% of the users from Internet communicate with each other in Spanish.

WHAT IS THE ORIGIN OF THE SPANISH LANGUAGE?

The Spanish language has its origin in the common Latin language from the old Roman Empery. After the fall of the Roman Empery, the formal Latin decreased progressively and the spoken Latin, from that period, gave birth to different and multiple varieties of romantic Hispanic languages, from where the actual Spanish language appeared. Later, the colonization expanded the language from Hispania to the named “New World”, at the same time that absorbed new words from the more than 900 native languages that survived in the American continent. After getting the independence, the new American states initiated diver processes of linguistic unification that gave the possibility to the Spanish language to expand to our age.

In these moments, the Spanish language has more than 150.000 words in its Historic Dictionary, which shows its lexical wealth, only passed by the English with 350.000 entries in the Oxford Dictionary. The Spanish languages have become wealth within the time, practically from its start, thanks to the integration of new words, which come from the languages originated in America or United Kingdom, mainly in the technologic field, which makes learning Spanish a dynamic activity.

CURIOSITIES TO KEEP IN MIND WHEN YOU LEARN SPANISH

  • The Spanish language uses the Latin alphabet, but adding diver modifications: the vowels with high accent, the u can be seen with dieresis, and don’t forget about the famous ñ, only used in the Hispanic language.
  • The Spanish orthography is basically phonetic, which makes learning Spanish easier than other languages. Still, we have to keep in mind that letters like ‘b’ and ‘v’ practically don’t differ from each other and that the ‘h’ is mute.
  • On average, in an English translation there are a 20% words less than in the Spanish one.
  • Finally, talking about enumeration, the periods replace the commas and vice versa.
